How to create a marketing ops roadmap - templates included.
If you don’t have a roadmap for your team, someone will create one for you.
And you’re not gonna like it…
Here’s an updated guide on how to create a roadmap for your marketing and/or ops team:
Define/review the business top objectives and measurable KPIs to align your roadmap with business outcomes.
Compare top priorities and top problems based on these objectives.
Go on a listening tour with leaders, key partners, and team members to gather insights from diverse perspectives.
Host a brainstorming session to list ops projects that support top priorities, keeping customer impact and dependencies in mind.
Use prioritization frameworks (RICE, impact-effort, or urgent-important) and add a risk assessment to rank your initiatives.
Assess your team’s capacity and constraints (e.g., tools, budget, and interdependencies).
Send a quick preview to influential stakeholders and potential detractors to validate the plan and gain early buy-in.
Create a smart visual representation of the roadmap (e.g., Gantt chart, Kanban, or swimlanes) with categories for clarity.
Go on a roadshow tour to present and finalize the roadmap with leaders and key partners.
Set regular checkpoints to review progress, measure success, and refine the roadmap as conditions change.
If you have Canva, you can edit this roadmap template.
