9 Easy Wins for Marketing Ops Teams
Marketing operations can be complicated.
Here’s a list of easy wins that can yield big results.
1 - Use prioritization frameworks on your projects and tasks. My favorites are impact effort matrix and weighted scoring.
2 - Host a daily team standup. You’ll save so much time if you unblock someone or someone unblocks you.
3 - Schedule a lunch and learn with other teams to explain the value of marketing ops. You’ll build great relationships on both sides.
4 - Train a new employee to take over one of your tasks. Make sure to get buy-in first. This will hone your delegation skills and also help with their learning process.
5 - Start each project or solution brainstorm on a blank document. It will help you think clearly, and will also serve as historical documentation of your work.
6 - Create a severity rating for your support requests with clear definitions. This will help with the “constant fires”.
7 - Screen record yourself fixing common issues and fulfilling common requests. This will help others fill in for you as well as train new employees.
8 - Listen to marketing ops podcasts during routine tasks so you are always learning. Some great ones are OpsCast, the Humans of Martech, RevOps FM, The Revenue Growth Architects, OpsStars Podcast, What Gets Measured, and The Marketing Technology Podcast.
9 - Build the habit of having a teammate review your work. Campaigns, work flows, new processes - all can benefit from a second set of eyes.
Marketing Ops Predictions for the Next 5 Years
1. In 5 years, most marketing tools will not have databases.
2. 75% of executional work will be accomplished through generative AI and visual workflow builders.
3. Marketing Mix Modeling (MMM) will gain in popularity; Multi-Touch Attribution (MTA) will decline in popularity.
4. The largest marketing automation vendors will lose more than 30% of their marketing automation customers, except for Hubspot.
5. Marketing ops will transform into a role that specializes in AI strategy and implementation.
6. Product teams and marketing teams will grow while other functions will shrink, due to product and marketing owning the customer and user experience.
7. Firms will double their investment in ops (GTM ops, marketing ops, revenue ops).
8. There will be a rise in influencer marketing ops, meaning the standardization, scale, and performance measurement of influencer marketing.
9. The concept of “AI Agents” will not gain mass adoption, however, the seamless integration of generative AI and machine learning into everyday sales and marketing tasks will become commonplace.
